Samantha is in the Sociology Department at Johns Hopkins University. Her work broadly falls within the fields of political economy, political sociology, development sociology, and environmental/climate justice. Her work examines the long-term impacts of state-led land transfers on dispossessed farming populations in India. She is building on her knowledge of caste and class politics in India to advance a comparative analysis of why ethnonationalist movements are growing within marginalized communities and how various political parties are attempting to respond to this threat.
